In Bali, after the rice fields are harvested, ducklings are herded into the fields to do their share in helping prepare and fertilize the rice paddies for the next the planting. They waddle in quaking and honking and set to work irrigating the land as they dig their beaks and webbed feet into the watery sludge, gobbling up worms, eels, and insects. Every time we visit Saint Louis, we have to go to Dressel’s Public House in the Central West End. For years, when we lived in the Lou, this was our favorite hangout because of the pubs warm comfy cozy wood and brick interior. We always like to grab a seat by the fireplace, or sip on a drink at the bar and stare at the walls lined with pictures of famous poets and jazz musicians.
